A herd of elephants  destroyed the paddy crop last night in kanchanpur

Kanchanpur: A herd of elephants that entered in the village from Shuklaphanta National Park destroyed the paddy crop last night.

A herd of elephants has destroyed a paddy crop planted on two bighas of land of a farmer in Shuklaphanta Municipality-3, Jonapur.According to Ward Chairman Narendra Prasad Chaudhary the herd of eight elephants that came at midnight damaged the rice crop of locals Chetram chaudhary, Gangaram chaudhary and Sitaram chaudhary."A herd of elephants has destroyed the paddy crop by trampling and eating it, he said.

He said that the rice crop, which was the main source of livelihood, was destroyed by a herd of elephants. For the past few years, elephant herds have been damaging paddy and wheat crops in the central part of the park.

Farmers are being harassed as the municipality has not been able to come up with an effective plan for elephant control.
